My Boeing 737-200 Project

The X-Plane Freeware project (http://www.xplanefreeware.net/) developed a great plane for X-Plane 7, 8, and 9. It was the 737-300 project. Being this perhaps the most popular of all 737s available for this simulator, and having released the 737-700 as well left people wanting a real classic: the 737-200. Though the X-Plane Freeware project never released a 737-200, there was an independent WIP being developed by Andreas Much, creator of the Avroliner (http://xplane.andreasbenjamin.com/). This project however, was never finished and thus, never released.

I however started working on my own to make my own 737-200 with the elements of Andreas’ project, and finished the project. Unfortunately, because of copyrights, license agreements, and legal issues, I cannot distribute this plane, but I hope to show you what I’ve done so far. As I had access to Icaro Air’s 737-236ADV, I decided to make this project based on Icaro Air’s 737, registration HC-CFD.

Andreas’ project featured an original design and incorporated the 3D cockpit used in the X-Plane Freeware Project 737-300. Unfortunately, the fuselage did not exactly match with the 3D cockpit, so I borrowed the fuselage on the 737-300 and modified the center and rear parts so it looked like the fuselage on a 737-200. That was the first and biggest step.

The second step was to modify the panel. This project used the 737-300 panel, and what I did was to use the same basic shape as the one on the 737-300, and change everything inside. The only things that were left as the panel in the 737-300 was the glare shield panel (where the autopilot is), the pedestal, the primary instruments (altimeter, airspeed indicator, etc.) and the standby artificial horizon. I had lots of pictures of HC-CFD’s panel so I used them to make the panel and some instruments.

The original 737 had very basic systems, so I decided to add other goodies to make the plane more realistic. This meant including a pressurization system, and a hydraulic system. Since I also used pictures of the real 737 engine instruments, I had to calibrate the instruments and limits so the needles on the instruments could be accurate. I also added certain buttons that do nothing to the plane, but are there strictly for esthetical purposes, such as the emergency exit signs button, and the galley power button.

Once the panel and the systems were complete and working together, I later modified the sounds for the plane. I used sounds from the “Tinmouse” 737-200 project for Microsoft Flight Simulator and modified them. The sounds were modified so they can sound as realistic as possible from the cockpit.

The last detail was the livery. Somebody had already made a livery for Icaro Air for this plane, but I modified it slightly and added certain elements such as the “Unicef Niño Esperanza” sticker that this plane has in real life. I made other liveries, such as the Aerlolineas Argentinas 737-236ADV (LV-ZEC) which still uses the Sperry SP-177 autopilot.

I created another version of the 737-200 using the Sperry SP-77 autopilot (The older autopilot with the two big black levers). For this version I made a livery for the extinct Argentinean airline LAPA (LV-WNA). My friend Sebastian Iturralde made 2 liveries: one with the standard AeroGal colors (HC-CER), and the other one with the Nescafé livery (HC-CFH).

As exciting as this plane is to fly, it still has a few flaws. The first flaw is that the 3D cockpit does not exactly match the panel, so the instruments and buttons are thrown all around the place. The second flaw is the flight dynamics. This plane is extremely sensible, and even though I have tried to modify these settings, this hasn’t changed much.

Mi proyecto del 737-200

El grupo X-Plane Freeware Project (http://www.xplanefreeware.net/) desarrolló un gran avión para el X-Plane 7, 8, y 9. Este fue el proyecto del Boing 737-300. Este 737, al igual que su 737-700 fueron los mas populares 737 del X-Plane, y a pesar de eso, nunca desarrollaron un clásico: una chancha (737-200). Hubo un proyecto de un 737-200 que nunca se concluyó, que fue creado por Andreas Much, creador del popular Avroliner (http://xplane.andreasbenjamin.com/). Este proyecto nunca se terminó, y por ende, nunca fue lanzado.

Sin embargo yo decidí terminar ese proyecto. Lastimosamente, por un tema de derechos de autor, licencias, y demas temas legales, yo no puedo distribuir este proyecto, pero puedo comentarles al respecto y enseñarles unas fotos del mismo. En vista de que cuento con recursos del 737-236 ADV de Icaro, este proyecto fue enfocado en reproducir este avion, el HC-CFD.

El proyecto de 737-200 de Andreas Much tenia un fuselaje original e incorporaba la cabina 3D del 737-300 de X-Plane Freeware Project. Lastimosamente este fuselaje no empataba perfectamente con la cabina 3D, así que opte por tomar el fuselaje del 737-300, y moldearlo para que vaya acorde al fuselaje del 737-200. Este fue el primer paso, y el mas grande.

El segundo paso fue modificar el panel de instrumentos. El proyecto de Andreas Much utilizaba el panel del 737-300, así que lo que hice fue usar la forma principal del mismo, y modificar todo. Pocas cosas quedaron similares a la del 737-300 como por ejemplo el “Glare Shield Panel” que es donde esta el piloto automático. Así mismo, los instrumentos primarios que no tenían EFIS, y los instrumentos Standby, y el pedestal. En vista de que dispongo de muchas fotos detalladas de la cabina del HC-CFD, pude usar estas para hacer el panel y algunos otros elementos.

El 737 original tenia sistemas muy básicos, así que procedí a modificar sus sistemas, y añadí un sistema de presurización, y sistema hidráulico que cumplen con las especificaciones del 737-200 verdadero. En vista de que la mayoría del panel esta hecho a base de fotos del panel verdadero, se tuvo que modificar los limites y características de los instrumentos para que sus agujas marquen cantidades correctas, y confiables. Además añadí ciertos elementos como botones que al avión no le afectan, pero hacen al panel mas interactivo, real, y agradable a la vista. Esto es visible en el caso del botón del Galley Power, y de las luces de las salidas de emergencia.

Una vez que el panel y los sistemas funcionaron bien, el próximo paso fue modificar los sonidos. Utilicé los sonidos del 737-200 “Tinmouse” de Microsoft Flight Simulator. A estos los modifiqué para que los sonidos correspondan a los sonidos de la cabina.

El ultimo detalle fue el de la pintura externa. Alguien ya había hecho un “repaint” con los colores de Icaro, pero yo modifiqué este repaint para que lleve los stickers de “Niño Esperanza de UNICEF” como hay en el verdadero. Además hice otras pinturas como la de l 737-236ADV de Aerolíneas Argentinas (LV-ZEC).

Además de esta versión logré crear el 737-200 que usa el piloto automático Sperry SP-77 (El piloto automatico que no tiene diales para seleccionar altitud, curso, rumbo, etc. Y en vez tiene las 2 palancas negras grandes). Para este modelo mi amigo Sebastián Iturralde hizo 2 pinturas de AeroGal: la del HC-CER, y la del HC-CFH que lleva los colores de Nescafé. Yo por mi parte hice la pintura del 737 de Lapa (LV-WNA).

A pesar de que este avión es un avión muy entretenido para volar, tiene todavía sus fallas que no logro corregir. La primera es que la cabina 3D no coincide con el panel, y los instrumentos están botados por todas partes. El segundo es el problema con la dinámica de vuelo. Este avión es extremadamente sensible, y se descontrola al mas mínimo impulso. A pesar de que he tratado de modificar esto, no he tenido los resultados esperados.

Esto concluye mi proyecto personal del 737-200 para X-Plane 8.64. Espero poder subir videos pronto. Espero que les haya gustado.

An Ecuadorian Air Force 727-134 (FAE-691) / Un 727-134 de la Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana

Hello and welcome to my X-Plane blog. Here I will show you my personal X-Plane projects for X-Plane version 8.64.

What I mostly like to modify are aircraft models, starting by their liveries, their panels, their sounds, and the overall aircraft systems and dynamics. I am just an amateur, so most of what I’ve learned has been by trial and error. My idea is to reproduce planes I’ve flown in, and planes that are common in my region, and reproduce flights I’ve realized in my life.

I also like to modify certain scenery packages. I live in Ecuador, so I like to update and modify certain elements to make the experience of flying in Ecuador as realistic as possible. I also like to do this with Argentina, as I have also lived there.

As this is one of my many hobbies I do this for fun. I have used many resources from different freeware and payware projects for my personal use, so for this reason I cannot distribute my some of my projects. I will only distribute projects that I have created myself. Regarding the rest, I can only show you pictures and videos of my personal projects.

Hola y bienvenidos a mi blog de X-Plane. Aquí les postrare mis proyectos personales que he realizado para el X-Plane version 8.64.

Lo que me gusta hacer principalmente es modificar aviones empezando desde su pintura, los paneles de la cabina, los sonidos, y los sistemas y dinámicas del avión en general. La verdad es que solo soy un principiante en esto, asi que todo lo que he aprendido de este tema ha sido por ensayo y error. Mi idea es reproducir ciertos aviones en los que he volado, aviones que son comunes en esta región, y también reproducir vuelos que he tomado en mi vida.

Me gusta también modificar ciertos escenarios. Como vivo en Ecuador, me gusta actualizar ciertos escenarios para hacerlos lo mas reales posibles. Me gusta hacer esto con Argentina, y otros lugares en los que he visitado.

Como esto es un pasatiempo, todo esto lo hago por diversión. He usado muchos recursos de diferentes proyectos gratuitos y pagados para mi uso personal. Por este motivo no puedo distribuir algunos de mis proyectos. Solo puedo distribuir proyectos que han sido creados 100% por mi. Sobre los demás proyectos, solo les puedo mostrar fotos y videos de estos proyectos personales.

Me encuentro a las ordenes para preguntas, y espero sus comentarios. Así mismo espero que les guste este blog.
